Anything goes! (within reason). Check the rules if you’re not sure if it’s acceptable.

Out of curiosity, what were the inspiration you’ve all had to workout and be a champion?

Being in martial arts for the… roughly 8 years I think I was in it, I just kind of slowly grew an appreciation for it. I knew it was important, and after having done it so long, I started to enjoy doing it. Then scheduling in college hit, and I had to drop out of most extra curricular activities I was doing. For a while I didn’t do anything physical, maybe about three months, and I was growing restless, so I decided to just do it on my own. Then I realized I didn’t know as much about planning a workout as I thought I did, so I started looking for plans. I would try this and that, but never was really motivated to follow anything for more than a few days until I finally found BaGC. Granted I still have trouble sticking to one character, but at least I know that all the workouts here are good and I can always turn to the forums for help, so it works out.

Well I started doing karate when I was three because I loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I also did gymnastics and dance, so that all kind of led to a pretty active youth. That said, I didn’t really get into fitness until I started to become an awkward and socially impaired preteen/teenager, haha. I didn’t have many friends, and I honestly thought that working out would make more people like me. I was also a huge fan of Dragonball Z at the time. So, I started working out diligently. I was SO clueless, though. My usual workout included doing upwards of 200 bicep curls with my mom’s little 3 pound hand weights, doing a bazillion crunches in one single set, and cranking out 10-15 pushups.Silly stuff.
Luckily, I realized pretty quickly that I wasn’t getting much in the way of results, so I went to the library and grabbed some books on fitness, and went from there =D

I was inspired to workout because I am tired of watching everyone else be successful. I am determined to work my butt off and get in shape. I’m hoping I can get motivation and support here as the community seems to be full of awesome people. =D

i had started weight training when i was 16 years old at my high school to become a better athlete in track and field. i wanted to be a faster runner and be able to jump farther. i had no real idea what i was doing i was just doing as my coaches told me to do. i never had any real interest in working out but for the fact that it would make me a better athlete. i would have much rather been playing drums or video games.eventually i got to college and keep competing in track and field. once again mindlessly doing workouts to become a better athlete. however i didnt really know why i was getting faster or stronger, it just seemed to happen. IT WAS SORCERY!!!!it was my sophmore year of college and i was diagnosed with clinical depression, ADHD, and anxiety. i quit the track team and i was in a dark place in my life. i hated everything and i didnt give a shit about anything really. i started to develop a bit of a drinking problem as well being in college and all made it easy to drink. then one day one of my friends talked to me one day, not necesarily like “dude you look like shit” but it was “hey man, what’s going on?” i told him that i had a lot going on emotionally and mentally. he told me that life also has a physical aspect and that is one of the elements (emotions and mental were the other 2). he said that maybe i should start working out, it may help you feel a little better. so i took his advice and had a slight desire to start working out. however i didnt know anything really, i just knew things that i did in track. he sent me the following video and it got me really pumped and excited to lift. the guys name was Zyzz and he was a skinny kid all his life then he got jacked and shredded. in my mind my primal instincts said YOU NEED TO LOOK LIKE THAT.so i took up a basic workout and it started from there.i’m now 23, im a personal trainer because i know the benefits of working out and how it helped me feel physically and emotionally. i aspire to be a body builder/model one day and work towards it everyday. i also am a martial artist and have found that exercise has helped me become a better martial artist as well as my habits from martial arts has helped me become a better athlete in regards to weights.-barnyewesttwitter @barnyewest

^hey I know this guy…^ =P Thanks for sharing, dude.
Wannaloseit: Awesome motivation. Sometimes competition is one of the best motivators! If you haven’t yet, I STRONGLY suggest you start up a workout log in the log forum and start getting active (even if it’s a nice, manageable start like walking every day).

I hit 250 lbs, my clothes weren’t fitting, and I had a gut. Granted, I’ve had a gut for awhile, and I’ve always kinda-sorta wanted to work out. This site was actually the little bit of energy that sent me over the tipping point. I could stop making excuses, and I could start striving for something.
Plus, I have a sexy face and want a sexy body to go along with that.

I think it was the fall of 2013 that I had come across Dan’s site. I found it while looking for artwork of Connor Kenway actually, and as usual said “Oh, workouts. I’ll do that sometime”. Several months later I was visiting with my siblings and we somehow ended up watching parkour videos. One in particular was a guy dressed as Altair running around doing the things that parkour people do. It wasn’t spectacular, but it hit me in a very visceral way. I don’t know why that video triggered a desire to finally start working out, and working towards those skills but it did. When I got back home I dug up Dan’s site. On the characters page I recognized Faith from the Mirror’s Edge game, and knowing that it was pretty much built around parkour I decided that would be my starting point.

I was always active as a kid myself but didn’t really get into regular exercise until High School. Then it was fun but like a few others on here I didn’t really understand why I got bigger and stronger I just knew that I did. Then I joined the army and my workouts changed from weights to calisthenics and I got a little better understanding of why exercise makes you stronger. After that I fell into a rough spot involving a lot of alcohol, violence, and a pre existing condition involving depression. I basically tried to self destruct for reasons that now seem kind of trivial. Then two years ago I met my wife and everything just kind of turned around, now I have a son on the way and I want to get in better shape to be a good role model for him and to be able to keep up with him when he wants to play. On top of all that I really just like the feeling I get when I work out and I know I’m getting stronger and faster when the average bear is not in very good shape.
