I wanted to know what you guys think about tofu and soy products! I am pescatarian and i do eat a ton of tofu, i only have good things to say about it, but all the Bros i talk to tell me that tofu will reduce my testosterone levels. I asked my step-mom (who is a nutritionist) and she told me that i should not worry about that, in some contested studies, really concentrated soy supplementation had these effects on men. I have others protein sources in my nutrition, but as far as getting protein for a very cheap (2$ a brick) price, i love tofu!
What do you think about it ?

Sorry, I don’t have any experience with tofu.
No wait, there was a holiday where a friend of a friend made a tofu turkey. It was not bad.

Tofu’s awesome. Honestly, the whole soy protein+estrogen thing was kind of blown out of proportion, you’re step-mom’s absolutely right. Don’t sweat it. I personally love tofu because of how super versatile it is. I hate tofu imitation products, though (tofurkey, tofu dogs, etc.) Give me the regular stuff, seasoned up and usually pan fried.

I ate it once, and I thought it tasted really bad, but whatever suits you. Go for it!

Tofu’s one of those foods that kind of takes on whatever flavor you give it in the cooking process so if it tasted like butt it was probably poorly prepared. I encourage you to try it again prepared another way! =D

I feel that tofu is all about littles twists to make it better, like draining the brick with paper towels before marinating so the tofu can turn into a sponge for flavors. Also, i mostly cook tofu in sesame oil, this give the best basic taste, along with sriracha and hoi sin sauce! You need to try buffalo nugget tofu ( tofu in diana spicy bbq sauce coated with some crumbs), a classic to eat while binge watching netflix with my GF!

As a kid I disliked tofu on principle, I think. It looked non-edible (like play-doh, which at least tasted good without marinating hahaha!), and I mostly knew it from the unlockable character in Resident Evil 2.Then one day my mom brought some home, soaked it in like soy sauce or something absurdly simple like that, pan-fried it, and… good gawd it was so good!So it really is all in the preparation.
Now I’m hungry from some nice savory tofu…

I’ll see about trying it again sometime then- my friend prepared it in sukiyaki but I don’t think she marinated it.

I lived in China for 7 months and gave tofu a try many times, but each time the texture made me gag, your method does sound genuinely tasty! I’ll give it a try sometime.
